Mkhondo Fire & Rescue was officially established in December 2006 by Mr. Anton Nortje who then decided to start a full fledged Fire & Rescue service as this service was up until that time rendered by the Department of Public Safety under the Traffic Department.
The Traffic Officers at that time had two functions namely to work as both Traffic Officers and Fire Fighters.
The first fire fighters where appointed in March 2007 and the Department grew from there till where we are today.
The Mkhondo Fire Department serves the community of Mkhondo with pride and although we cover an area of almost 5000 square kilometer we try to reach each Emergency Call as fast as we can.

This division is very proud and excited to announce that once again we are growing and expanding and we will shortly use new Reporting and Incident Management Software. This will be used to record all Emergencies that we attend and much much more.
